EVENTS OF THE HUNT, POINT, RETRIEVE BREEDS ASSOCIATION
Kennel Club Gundog Working Certificate
Wednesday 5th May 2010 at Catton Park
By kind Permission of Robin Neilson

The weather was warm with a very changeable wind.
The ground was wheat fields and young tree plantations with Pheasant and Partridge.
The object of the day was to test the dogs hunting ability, pointing, and steadiness to flush and to test to see if the dog was gun shy with a shot fired on the flush.
Each dog was required to run for 10 minutes to show stamina and continuity in their work. Finally, to see whether that dog was ready work on a shoot day.
We started with eleven dogs and due to errors on the way we ended up with 2 dogs that we felt were ready to participate on a shoot.

Andiamo Brackens Beauty. G W P B. Owned and handled by Ann Bishop.

This dog was set off in a plantation with some pace covering a good beat.   She worked closely with the handler and worked the wind very well.  She soon came in contact with scent, was soon on staunch point which she held steady.

The bitch flushed and sat to shot to a single partridge.  She carried on; coming into contact with game again, flushed the second Partridge and was steady to shot.
We then took her into wheat, to finish of her time, which she covered satisfactory this dog was deemed ready.

Forgun Femtio Fem Wei B. Owned by Chris Issitt & handled by Carl Issitt.

This bitch’s first run was in wheat.  She covered a good beat working mainly a cheek wind and working well with her handler to get the most out of her beat, but she was unfortunate not to come in to game.  On her 2 run, again on wheat, she worked up a hedge row and then worked out into the crop; she soon located and pointed game.
When asked to flush she produced a pair of partridge and was steady to shot.  This dog was deemed ready.

We would like to thank the Association for the invitation to judge, the host for allowing us to test our dogs on fantastic ground, Penny and Sheila for the catering and all of the competitors for allowing us to judge their dogs which all show promise in the shooting field.

Judges Maureen Nixon. & Mark Firmin.
