On 9th November 2008 at group of HPR enthusiasts came together in Staffordshire to discuss the formation of an Association to support, promote and protect the breeds, which Hunt, Point and Retrieve. It’s principal aim being to encourage the production of stock that fits the standard for its respective breed; is sound in mind and body and to fulfil its role as a working gundog.
The meeting was attended by 39 enthusiasts/owners across the board of HPR breeds. The vote in favour of the formation of a new club was carried by a majority vote. The title and initial objectives were approved by the majority present. A small steering Committee was appointed.
Over the last twelve months, despite being very newly formed the Association has organised and hosted a successful Spring Pointing Test at Catton Park Estate; a Companion dog show; a seminar on ‘The Requirements of a HPR Field Trial Judge’. 10 weeks of summer working training for our members and we have held a ringcraft training day.
In 2010 we look forward to our first AGM when full elections will take place & the proposed constitution can be ratified by the members. We are planning our first Test of Work along with water training and it is our intention to run training with well known Gundog trainers in Scotland and the Scottish Borders. In the Summer of 2010 we are pleased to announce training classes run under the banner of the HPRBA in the South of England.
